Term 1 Week 9

This week we are in Holy week. This is the final week of Lent and it recounts the final days of Christ’s life, as well as his death, burial and resurrection. This is a short week for us all to spend and enjoy Easter with our families. We hope you all have a wonderful and joyous Easter.

Our learning focus this week:

In Literacy we are using our phonics to figure out unfamiliar words in reading and writing.

In Maths we are learning to add and subtract numbers using a range of counting strategies.

In Religious Education our focus is on Holy Week.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the Gala such a success. It was so wonderful to see so many of you there supporting St. Mary’s School and bringing our community together. Check out some of the cool photos on St. Mary's Facebook page if you haven't already.

Good luck to our students in Kakano who will be heading off to the Mount to play Golf. Have fun and all the best.

Message from Bernie Hall DRS

Each year as a Caritas fundraiser, and to raise awareness of those who survive on a bowl of rice a day, St Mary’s School will participate in the Rice Day Challenge. Your child will be provided with rice for lunch. They are to bring a bowl/cup and spoon/fork and a gold coin donation.

All students are expected to participate. It is a good thing to allow your child to experience what having limited choices feels like and plain food tastes like. So please, unless your child has specific dietary requirements do not buy or provide a school lunch on this day.

Sausage sizzle

What a big day Friday was!

Friday was a big day for us. We started the day with our St. Joseph's Mass. Well done to our Kakano 1, 2 & 3 readers who did an amazing job reading their prayers of the faithful.

Well done to Joaquin and Elladee who took up the offertory gifts - you were amazing.

In the afternoon we had Golden Time activities with our house groups. We practiced our house group chants, came up with ideas for our house group banners, drew amazing chalk pictures on the driveway and played some fun games together.

And after all that excitement, it was GALA time! There would have been some very tired Kakano 1, 2 & 3 children by the end of the GALA - I know their teachers were absolutely shattered and really appreciated that the following day was Saturday.

Sunday 14 March 2021

Term 1 - Week 7

It’s GALA WEEK! Thank you for getting in behind this exciting event. Money earned at Gala will go towards making our fenced play area a little more welcoming - we are so excited.  As Friday is going to be hectic enough, there will be NO sausage sizzle.

It is Saint Patrick's day on Wednesday and it is Saint Joseph’s day on Friday.  It was the Sisters of Saint Joseph who started our school.  This makes Saint Joseph a very special saint for our school so we will be celebrating.  Kakano 1, 2 and 3 will be leading the mass on Friday morning and you are most welcome to join us.

Golden Time with Pompallier

On Friday, we had a special Golden Time just for Pompallier. The Pompallier teachers organised a giant water fight. Everyone joined in and there were sponges flying everywhere! We were very proud of our Year 3-6 children who were really kind and gentle towards our little Pompallier people. They were not so kind to their poor old teachers however! Poor, poor Mrs Todd and Mrs Tabuteau had to sit through assembly in soaking wet clothes (it's lucky that the weather played nicely).
