Week 9 Term 2

How did we get to Week 9 so fast?!  On Friday last week, we took our team to the Parish mass.  We cannot tell you how proud we were of our kids. They were polite, they joined in, they talked to Father and answered questions, …They were an absolute credit to St Marys AND to their whanau.  A big thanks for the delicious morning tea and an extra thanks to the wonderful Mums who helped out and braved morning tea with us. There is quite a bit happening in the last couple of weeks of term - keep an eye on the school newsletter and thanks for checking the blog.

School Photos

Photos are being taken on Monday 28th June. Kakano 1, 2, 3 are booked quite early in the day.  Please, wear the correct school uniform -  this includes simple red/blue colours for hair ties etc. For more info check the school newsletter. Thanks heaps.

Digital Wellbeing for Parents

Our Year 3-6 classes have been participating in a programme called ‘Te Iwi Matihiko’. This programme educates children on how to care for their own well-being online and the positives and negatives of engaging in digital spaces. On Tuesday we will be hosting a parents session - this session is open to ALL parents.

Teacher Only Day

A reminder that we have a Teacher Only Day on the last day of term (July 9th). If you need child care for your child/ren, you can contact Mary-Ann Roling from Glenholme Afterschool on 347 0709 or 0211 215599. Mary-Anne will be caring for students at St Mary’s.

Our Learning

Literacy = sounds in sequence.

We are looking at how we use sounds, small words and bits of words that we know to make our reading and spelling easier.

Numeracy = reading the problem

We are reading word problems to look for clues about how to solve. You can talk to your children about words that could mean add (join, more…) or subtract (take away, minus, disappear…).

Religious Education = Sacrament

We are learning about the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism is how we are welcomed into God’s family. How does your family make others feel welcome?

Check out our superb huffing and puffing (and the delighted squeals!)

Week 8 Term 2

This weekend has seen some great ‘read a book’ weather and it looks like we have a bit more rain to come. It might be a good idea to pack a raincoat and, if your child is a puddle jumper (and who isn’t?), a spare pair of dry socks.  The term isn’t over yet and we want to stay happy and healthy. There are some nasty bugs floating around the community and there have been a couple of instances of chicken pox and a few cases of head lice. It’s probably a good reminder to take care of ourselves and keep a close eye on our busy, but tired, little learners.

Matariki Dinner

Our Matariki Dinner is scheduled for Thursday June 24th in our school hall at 5.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come and share food from your country if you would like. Otherwise just bring a plate of food. We have been having these dinners now for five years and they are always lots of fun and well supported.

Thank You

You have most likely already heard that we won the Education Category of the 2021 National Access Alliance People’s Choice Accessible Business Awards. The awards recognise businesses and organisations that go the extra mile to enable everyone to fully participate in society. Thanks to everyone for voting.

Talent Quest Finalists

A huge WELL DONE to Zoe, Jenik and Hope who all made it through to the finals of the school talent quest show, which was organised and run by the Young Vinnies. All three of you showed an amazing amount of courage to get up in front of the school and do your performances. You were all very entertaining! I can't wait to see what talents you show us in the years to come.

Here's Zoe's amazing performance!

Hi Mums and Dads

If you have a photo of your child from their baptism, please send in a copy or email a copy to me for our wall display. Any hard copies of photos sent in will be returned to you.

Thanks heaps

Miss Ryan

Week 7 Term 2

 End of term tiredness is beginning to make an appearance with our beautiful children. Eating healthy food, drinking plenty of water and getting lots of sleep will help them get through the next few weeks until the holidays. They had an amazing time on Friday afternoon with the imagination playground, balls and the sandpit. Check out Educa for all the photos if you haven’t already.

Double, Double, This, This

WOW! You are clever kids figuring out how to do this with more than one person - all by yourselves!

Then with a teeny tiny bit of "I wonder if..." you did it with the whole class!

JOY Assembly

Once again Kakano 2 and 3, you were simply amazing at our assembly on Friday. You all spoke so beautifully and clearly. Tirama - you are a champ for stepping in at the last minute to cover for someone who was away.

We got lots of photos this time - from the stand and "behind" the scenes. It really is incredible how wonderful and courageous our children are.

Thank you to all the family and friends who came to support us on Friday. We loved having you there.

Term 4 Week 9 - Last week of the school year

This is our last few days together in Kakano 1-3. We have lots going on this week. It has been a sheer pleasure teaching your little cherubs...
